About La Vieille Gorce
Our Journey to Creating a Tranquil Retreat in Vienne, France

Our Story

Meet Sarah and Paul – From New Zealand to the Heart of Poitou-Charentes

Bonjour, we’re Sarah and Paul and together with our two adopted french cats Mango and Noodle, we welcome travellers from all over the world to our little haven of peace and tranquility in the beautiful Vienne countryside.

A few years ago we left New Zealand to embark on a new adventure in France and we discovered this wonderful property just waiting to be loved. We enjoyed the challenge and within six months we opened the doors to our first visitors. Feedback from our guests has been wonderful with many returning each year to enjoy the bucolic environment and idyllic surroundings.

Commitment

A Relaxing & Peaceful Escape

There is much to explore in the area from historic villages and churches to local markets and brocantes. Walk or cycle along the numerous chemins surrounded by sunflower fields or hire a kayak and see the sights along the majestic Vienne river.

History enthusiasts can take a guided tour and discover the Benedictine Abbey in Charroux, just five minutes from the property, founded in 785 by Roger, Count of Limoges. The abbey is said to have possessed the Holy Prepuce, the foreskin of Jesus, which was allegedly given to the monks by Charlemagne, King of the Franks from 768 to 814 !!!

If you are a solo traveller, a couple, travelling with friends, or a family there is everything you need to switch off, wind down and re-charge, whether it’s for a few days, a couple of weeks or an overnight stay.

What to do now? Check for availability on the calendar and start packing!

We look forward to welcoming you.
